Burghley Rotary will be holding its fourteenth Stamford Santa Fun Run commencing at 11.30 a.m.on Sunday 5 December 2021 within Burghley Park. This year we welcome the increased support and cooperation with the Stamford Striders to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. As in previous years, the emphasis is for local organisations and charities to enter their own teams in the Fun Run to raise money by sponsorship for their own good causes. Alternatively, make it a family morning out and come and enjoy yourselves with the option of supporting our selected Rotary good causes. Last year was regrettably cancelled but in 2019, some132 teams took part and a total of over 1500 "Santas" registered for the event.
The event will take place on Sunday 5 December 2021.
If arriving by car you should enter Burghley Park through the Station Gates entrance off Barnack Road. The car park and event area can be reached by turning right immediately on entering the Park. Parking is free. The start point for the run is between the bottom of the cricket ground and Lady Diana's Memorial Ground. Google Earth coordinates are 52' 38 57.15N, 0' 28.18.63W. The run will commence at 11.30 a.m. Those intending to run will be invited to start first, followed by the joggers, the walkers, the strollers, the amblers, the dog walkers (on leads please), the pushchairs, etc. Check-in will be open from 10.00 a.m. We recommend you plan to be at the event start by 11.00 a.m. for the warm-up event at 11.15 a.m which will be organised and controlled by Stamford Wildcats. The draw for the winner of the Waitrose raffle will take place immediately before the start; the winner will qualify for a £300 "trolly dash" in store. Tickets can be purchased immediately before the draw.
The event will be on tarmac roads and country paths so your footwear should be suitable for these tracks bearing in mind it is December and may have been snowing or raining recently. To complete the 5km it will be necessary to complete 3 laps of the track. You will be expected to count your own completed laps although it is perfectly acceptable for you to complete less than the 3 laps if you want.
There will be toilet facilities adjacent to the event start suitable for disabled access. St John Ambulance first aid points will be located at strategic points around the track. Refreshments will be available for all entrants after the event, courtesy of Anne Corder Recruitment.
How to Enter
We would prefer you to enter and pay using the on-line application form. Here you will be able to enter a new team, apply to run with an existing pre-registered team or enter as an individual. Note that if you entered a previous Stamford Santa Fun Run since 2015/16, your "Entry Profiles" are already created. Thus,you may simply log on using your previous username/email address and password. You can then create your own "Runner Profile" together with those for your friends and family, select your choice of Team - or create a new one - and then make a single payment for all your Runners. If you apply online or by post you will receive confirmation and a reference number for your application. Please retain this number for suit collection purposes.
The registration procedure can also be carried out from the suit collection venue during collection times. All forms will be available and payment by cash,
cheque, credit/debit card, will be taken. See "Suit Collection" below for more details.
Last minute entries will be accepted on the day of the event at Reception. We are pleased to announce that electronic connections should be available so payment can be made by credit/debit card as well as cash or cheque.
A continuing feature for 2021 is an "Early Bird" discount for Adults who enter the event on or before 31 October 2021; the fee will be £13. Thereafter, from 1 November 2021, the fee will remain as for 2019 at £14. The fee for Children 12 years of age and under remains at £7. The fee includes a Santa Suit inclusive of hat and beard which is yours to keep. In addition, entrants will receive a medal on completion of the course, a mince pie and, if old enough, a glass of mulled wine.
Children 4 and under are free, but no Santa Suit will be provided. Please do not enter their details for the event or you could be charged.
Teams should ideally be a minimum of 6 runners. Each team will need to have an appointed Team Leader who needs to register the name of the team with us, ideally on-line. Alternatively, please print, complete and post the Team Entry Form. Once registered, further individuals can enter for their Team.
If you are an individual or a representative of a Team who wishes to raise sponsorship money for your own specific charity or good cause, please specify clearly on the entry form. Alternatively, sponsorship money raised can be donated to the Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley, who support local good causes; this year they include: Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, Stamford Food Bank, Stamford Mindspace and Anna's Hope.
If you pay income tax please tick the "Gift Aid" box. This enables us to reclaim 25p for every £1 donated. Please also make sure your sponsors tick the Gift Aid box as well on your sponsorship forms. It is important that each individual sponsor provides their full HOME address and post code. If this is not completed the Inland Revenue will not agree to Gift Aid.
Sponsorship Forms can be downloaded from the web site. Money collected for the Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley must be paid to us by 10 January 2022. Teams and individuals raising money for their own causes are asked to let us know how much has been raised by 10 January 2022 to assist in our publicity. Collection times are as follows:
28th November to 5th December 2020 inclusive, during the following times:
- Saturday 28th November and 5th December - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Sunday 29th November - midday to 3 p.m.
- Monday 30th November, Tuesday 1st, Wednesday 2nd and Friday 4th December - 3 to 6 p.m.
- Thursday 3rd December - No Collection
Please note that the registration procedure can also be carried out during the above times. All forms will be available and payment by cash, cheque, credit/debit card, will be taken at the same time.
Suits can also be collected on the day of the Stamford Santa Fun Run at the start venue, but please allow time to do this and bring along your confirmation details including entry number. If you can, please try to collect your suits before the day.
Wheelchair entrants are most welcome. All those entering the wheelchair section of the event will receive separate additional instructions.
The rules for the Stamford Santa Fun Run of 2021 are as follows: Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.
· Competitors cars are only to be parked in the designated area (this is to ensure access for emergency vehicles). In addition, only vehicles displaying a current disabled badge may be parked in the area allocated to disabled entrants.
· Competitors must obey the directions given by Run Marshals.
· Only those that have paid the entrance fee may participate. Any Santa Suits that have not been collected within 15 minutes after the start of the event will be retained by the event organisers.
· Dogs must be kept on leads and under proper control. (Dogs can be a menace to participants and the sheep that graze in the Park).
· Persons are not allowed to drive on the Burghley Park roads when the run is in progress.
· All rubbish must be disposed of in the receptacles provided, or taken home (deer inhabit the Park and rubbish can kill them if it is ingested)
